Choosing an agent

Choose Claude Code or Codex, a model and an effort level before starting a task.

Ophio isn’t released yet. These docs describe the development version; app downloads are not available.

You choose the agent for each new task. Ophio no longer uses Jev to choose an agent, model or effort level automatically. Jev is used only for voice control.

Make a choice

  1. Write a new request in Talk. Open Message tools → Agent, model and effort, or select the agent in the task’s Review sheet.
  2. In Agent for this task, choose Agent, Model, Effort and Launch flags.
  3. Tap Use this agent, review the rest of the task, then start it.

Claude Code and Codex are the native task integrations. They run on your computer using their signed-in accounts. Available models and effort levels come from the installed agent’s reported capabilities. Agent’s default leaves that choice to the agent; it does not ask Jev.

Check the model list’s age, availability and any offline warning. A saved choice does not prove the installed agent can currently run it. The task can show both what you requested and what the agent reported using.

Project defaults and saved tasks

With management permission, Also use this agent, model and effort for new tasks in [project] saves those three choices. It does not save launch flags. Permission defaults are separate, per-agent settings on the phone; see Agents & task permissions.

An agent or skill can fill in its own starting choices. Review them before starting. Existing tasks keep their recorded agent, instructions and permission policy across continuations and retries. Changing a project default does not rewrite them.

Missing or unsupported agents

The picker explains agents that are missing, unavailable or usable only through a terminal. Check Settings → Agents and accounts, run ophio doctor on the computer, and resolve installation or sign-in problems there. Optional agent updates can maintain supported installations.

Hermes and OpenClaw can be used through Control → Terminals. They are not native Ophio task integrations: do not expect the managed task’s structured approvals, receipts or computer-use controls from an ordinary terminal session.

If you used Auto routing before

There is no Auto task choice or Routing settings section now. Choose Claude Code or Codex explicitly, including for GitHub finder and fixer tasks. The old ophio routing commands have been replaced by ophio jev connect, status and disconnect for voice control. Follow Voice control for that setup.
