Install on Android

Install the Ophio Android app from GitHub Releases and check the download before you open it.

Ophio isn’t released yet. These docs describe the development version; app downloads are not available.

Use the official GitHub Release linked from Downloads when a signed Android package is available, with its SHA-256 alongside. Only a listed, signed release package is an installable download.

  1. Download the APK from the release linked on Downloads, not a reposted copy.
  2. Check its SHA-256 against the release manifest.
  3. Android may ask you to allow installs from your browser or file manager. Allow it for this install; you can turn it off again afterwards.
  4. Open Ophio and pair it with your computer.

The app runs on ARM64 devices. API 29 (Android 10) is the build minimum; the platform record lists the devices actually tested.

Install through computer setup

If a computer package includes a signed APK, ophio setup can install it through Android Wireless debugging and adb. Enable Wireless debugging on the phone and follow the pairing steps shown by setup. This is optional; it is not a separate download source or release announcement.

Setup refuses to replace an Ophio install signed with another key. It leaves that install alone. Do not uninstall just to bypass the check.

Notices

Settings → Versions → Open-source notices lists the app’s bundled licence notices.

Updates

The Android app does not update itself. Install new versions from the same release source so the signing key matches. If Android reports a signature mismatch, don’t uninstall to get around it: uninstalling can delete the app’s drafts and local data. See Updating.
